You can play blackjack at a live, land-based casino or at an online casino, and the rules are usually quite similar, as are the odds. A lot of things, however, differ between playing blackjack at a live casino and playing online blackjack. If you’re playing blackjack with a live dealer at an online casino, it is more like live blackjack, so we’ll be talking about regular online blackjack and not about live dealer online blackjack.
If you’ve ever played live blackjack at a casino, you’ll discover that some things aren’t so much fun. For example, the game moves very quicklly. Everyone is in a big rush to get through the hand, and if you hold up the hand, people will be annoyed. Another thing that can be distressing is the table limits. Since a live dealer needs to attend to each player and you are taking up a space at a table, the minimum for live blackjack can be quite high.
If you’re playing online blackjack at an online casino, no one is waiting for you to take your turn. While online casinos may have a time limit on each hand, you will certainly have enough time to think through every decision before you make it. If you have a chart on hand, you’ll have enough time to consult it. At a live casino, a dealer will generally automatically make the move suggested by basic strategy, which is helpful, but can make it feel like you’re not an active player. At online casinos, there is no live dealer, so you can often play for very low limits. Some online casinos allow you to play blackjack for stakes of less than a dollar. You’ll never find stakes like that in Las Vegas.
Most online casinos have more than one variant of blackjack. You can shop around for your favorite in the play for fun version of the casino or for very low stakes before you start playing. If you’re playing in a live casino, you can’t just try out a couple of rounds of blackjack switch for free, and if you watch other players too closely, they may get annoyed.
The main downside to playing online blackjack versus playing live blackjack is clear. You miss the social interaction. If you like to play blackjack as a way to blow off steam and hang out with like-minded people, online blackjack doesn’t fit the bill. If you want to learn, though, online blackjack is the way to go.
Another difference live and online is when you don’t play basic Blackjack, the people at the table are getting annoyed. So you better can practise alone at a table online.
